OUR PROGRAMS
Dorchester Adult Family Shelter
Our Dorchester campus houses an Adult Family Shelter program which provides 36 families (moms and their children) experiencing homelessness with shelter and trauma-informed services uniquely needed during their path to long-term, multi-generational stabilization.
The typical length of stay for a family is 12 months.
Striving to enhance a family’s ability to not only achieve, but to sustain economic and social independence, the program offers residents:
- Shelter for families experiencing homelessness
- Assessment and crisis stabilization services
- Intensive case management and advocacy
- A full continuum of skills groups on topics ranging from budgeting, to parenting, to substance abuse recovery
- Access to family libraries, book clubs, and infant/toddler playrooms
- Therapeutic recreation programming for children
- On-site family medicine and additional case management provided by Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program
- Education support and workforce development mentorship
- On-site behavioral health services
- Access to on-site childcare through the Carolyn Lynch Children’s Center
Housing advocates prepare each family’s move from shelter to permanent housing and support families during a 24-month stabilization period.
